Description

TO EDWARD BURTENSHAW SUGDEN, ESQ.

Sir,
I had intended to give you my Vote, and still will do so, if you will give me a clear and satisfactory answer to the following Question:-
Did you not, Sir, on or about the 13th of June, 1825, call upon CHARLES BUTLER, ESQ., of Lincoln’s Inn, and notify your intention to become a Candidate for the Rape of Bramber, on the resignation of COL. LLOYD – intimating, at the same time, that you were a DECIDED FRIEND TO CATHOLIC EMANCIPATION; but which fact you were anxious not to be made known, in consequence of the UNPOPULARITY of the Catholic question in that part of Sussex?
This, Sir, is the question to which I desire an answer without delay; as, on its nature, will depend whether myself, and many others, will give you our support at the approaching Election.

I am, Sir, your obedient Servant,
A FREEHOLDER of the RAPE OF BRAMBER.
